Computer Science Department

A community of active researchers, dedicated teachers and excellent students makes up the Department of Computer Science at Clarkson University. Together, we pursue, develop and acquire the knowledge and skills that are necessary in a world that relies critically on computer technology. Faculty, undergraduates and graduate students in the department perform research in a wide range of areas spanning theory, artificial intelligence, security, software, systems and networks. Whether you're earning a BS, master’s or PhD in computer science at Clarkson, you will get hands-on experience developing software and software systems, incorporating aspects such as design, theory and application. This is done both inside and outside the classroom. For example, our department is home to Clarkson's famous COSI (Clarkson Open Source Institute) Lab — an environment for open-source projects.

Undergraduate students can pursue a BS in computer science. Through coursework, access to laboratories and research with faculty, undergrads cover areas including computer networks and operating systems, cryptography and cybersecurity, algorithms and formal aspects of computation, virtual reality and human-computer interaction, and software verification.

Graduate students in the master’s or PhD in computer science programs benefit from an interdisciplinary format. The MS program is offered jointly with the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering.
