High School Group Visits

Whether you're part of an Upward Bound program, a science class or a guidance counselor led group, our staff is here to create a memorable visit for all of your participants. All of our high group visits take place at our main campus in Potsdam, New York. Requests for visits to our Capital Region Campus in Schenectady, New York, can only be filled on a case-by-case basis.

A group visit typically includes:

  • Taking a full or condensed tour of campus, led by one or more of our student admissions ambassadors.
  • An overview of Clarkson University including information about our 50+ programs of study, study abroad opportunities, extracurricular offerings and so much more!

We want to host you

At Clarkson, we welcome the opportunity to host your high school or community organization group visit and to give you a unique experience tailored to the needs of your students. 

General Information

  • All groups must fill out our High School Group Campus Visit Request Form found here.
  • Groups will be hosted Monday through Friday only. Special requests for Saturday visits can be made but will be granted at the discretion of the Admissions team based on staff availability.
  • Tours and admissions presentations are provided without fees for groups of 8th grade and higher.
  • Clarkson has the right to determine the final schedule of any group visit; our staff will do our best to accommodate all requests for activities within the allotted amount of time.
  • Groups must have at least one chaperone per every 15 students.

Booking & Cancellations

  • Group visits must be requested at least 10 business days (two weeks) in advance. If your group is larger than 100 students, please give at least four weeks notice.
  • If cancellation is necessary, we ask that you try to cancel five (5) business days (one week) before your scheduled visit.

Additional Fees

  • If audio/visual above and beyond what is required for standard activities is requested, a fee will be assessed.

What to Expect

Our campus tours are typically 60-90 minutes in length and cover the majority of our buildings on the "Hill" campus in Potsdam, New York. We can easily condense the length of the tours and focus on the areas your group is interested in seeing.

This includes:

  • residence halls
  • dining locations
  • the library
  • Career Center
  • indoor athletic facilities
  • Cheel Campus Center (including ice hockey area)
  • Student Center
  • academic buildings (classrooms and laboratories)
  • SPEED labs (Clean Snowmobile, Formula SAE, FIRST Robotics, Mini Baja and more). 

Many of our groups are looking to visit with specific academic departments or student support departments. If you have a specific group that you are hoping to spend some time with during your visit, please let us know.

Examples of frequently requested department visits include:

  • The Clarkson School (early college entrance program)
  • HEOP (Higher Education Opportunity Program)
  • CUPO (Community of Underrepresented Professional Opportunities)
  • Shipley Center for Innovation
  • Army/Air Force ROTC

During your time at Clarkson, you may be on campus at a typical mealtime. If this is the case, our office may be able to provide you with complimentary meals for your group depending on the age group and your financial needs. The location will be determined by our staff (you are welcome to give us your preference) based on the time of day for your meal, size of your group, capacity of the dining facility and schedule of activities. Bringing students to campus who are interested in applying or have already applied to Clarkson? If they haven't done an in-person admissions interview, doing so during your visit could be the perfect time. We will need the information on your specific students to make the arrangements and will need advance notice to ensure a counselor is available for the interview. 

Many of our faculty have developed fun, educational hands-on experiences and experiments that are perfect for a high school group. It is one of the most popular and unique options available to groups while visiting. Inquire for more details.

Especially for grades 10 and up, we strongly encourage your group to have an admissions overview with one of our counselors. All of our counselors are trained in both admissions and financial aid, so they can answer any questions your students may have about each process. The overview is a great way for the students to better understand going to college overall, what the processes are like and what to look for during their college search.

Applications for Fall 2025 entry are still being accepted at this time. Students who are applying for first-year entry will not be charged an application fee if you apply using the Clarkson or Common App.

Visit Days, Open Houses & Accepted Students Days

Visit Days will be offered for all students interested in learning more about Clarkson for first year, transfer and the Clarkson School. These are half day events geared towards students who want to learn more about Clarkson, see our campus, and get to know our unique offerings.

Fall Open Houses are for all students interested in learning more about Clarkson for first year, transfer and the Clarkson School. Taking place on Saturdays, these full day events give visiting families the experience to dive in to all Clarkson has to offer, as well as multiple opportunities for faculty, staff and student interaction.

Accepted Students events will take place for all students accepted for Fall 2025 admission, including first year, transfer and Clarkson School in a variety of formats and options. Check back for dates and registration information.

| Overnight Stays for Accepted Students

Once you've applied and have been accepted to Clarkson, you'll also have the opportunity to stay overnight with one of our current students to get the full college experience.

| Engineering Fridays

If you're interested in pursuing our undergraduate engineering programs and are looking to visit campus, consider attending one of our Engineering Friday events. These events, taking place on select Fridays throughout the fall, provide similar opportunities as a personalized visit, including an admissions overview, complimentary lunch at our main dining hall and campus tour, but also include 90 minutes of specialized time with our Coulter School of Engineering and Applied Sciences faculty, staff and students. Each Engineering Friday runs from 8:45 a.m. until approximately 1 p.m. 

Engineering Fridays have concluded for 2024 and will resume in September 2025.

 

| Transfer Fridays

Transfer Fridays take place on specific Fridays throughout the year. These events provide similar opportunities as a personalized visit like a campus tour, as well as a transfer admissions overview, an academic meeting with a faculty member, lunch at one of our on-campus eateries, and a one-on-one meeting with one of our transfer representatives for an instant admission decision. Activities run from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We invite you to join us for our series of Virtual Information Sessions, taking place each week. During each of these sessions, a member of our Admissions team will give a brief presentation about Clarkson, along with the admissions and financial aid process. Then, we will highlight a different department or topic each week, such as the Career Center, Student Success Center, SPEED Teams (engineering design project teams), Student Life and more!  All sessions will have current students, along with department faculty/staff, and you will have the chance to ask any questions you may have.

Getting to & Around Campus

All of our undergraduate programs are housed at our main campus in Potsdam, New York, just outside the six million acre Adirondack Park and a short drive from two of Canada's most notable cities - Ottawa and Montreal. Whether you're coming by car, plane, or bus, here are directions to our campus.

Once you're on our campus, you may choose to utilize our campus map. Notable buildings for new guests include Holcroft House, our undergraduate admissions hub; the Student Center, our student life hub; and Cheel Campus Center, home to the Golden Knights Division I men's and women's ice hockey teams.

Dining & Lodging

Potsdam, New York is a welcoming, friendly college town. Located on the banks of the beautiful Raquette River, its tree-lined streets and historic red sandstone buildings give a friendly feel to an array of modern stores and restaurants within walking distance of our campus.

From gluten-free bakeries, farm-to-table bistros and international cuisine restaurants, Potsdam is known in the region for its variety of culinary options. Overnight accommodations in the area include well-recognized chain hotels, quaint bed and breakfasts and family owned motels.

Designing Resilient Global Supply Chains

Until recently, the topic of global supply chains rarely captured public or media attention. But the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with geopolitical conflicts, has had an unprecedented impact on global supply chains and pushed the subject into the national spotlight. The intensity, durability and range of recent and ongoing supply chain disruptions have prompted enterprises to re-examine the premises of traditional supply chains.

If there is one thing firms have learned from their recent experiences, it is the need for resiliency in their supply chains. The grim situation experienced by global supply chains was different from past disruptions. Historically, supply chain shocks included natural disasters, terrorist attacks, information system downtime, labor disputes, hacker attacks and political and social movements. Such conventional shocks were often regional in scale and could be handled in isolation.

The latest shocks on global supply chains have several new features: the length of the disruption is long and unpredictable; the shock simultaneously impacts various geographical areas around the globe; and the shock disrupts both supply and demand, with the resulting bullwhip effect triggering even larger shocks in the upstream supply chains. Many problems remain in global supply chains, including shortages of raw materials and labor, clogged ports, transportation delays, government interventions, etc.

Clearly, resiliency does not just happen. It involves investing in people, processes and technology, as well as designing strategic redundancies in the supply chain. Post-pandemic reviews indicate that firms that handled disruptions better were those that invested in designing resiliency before the pandemic.

Our interdisciplinary supply chain management program covers critical topics to help today’s professionals successfully navigate future challenges. In this issue of Linkages, you will read about our program and faculty’s latest achievements and research, including: two new faculty who are using modeling to improve large-scale food distribution supply chains (p. 2-3) and optimize peer-to-peer transportation platforms (p. 6); how students experience the challenges of strategic decision- making through simulations (p. 7); the appointment of global supply chain leader Jennifer de Souza, vice president,
The Raymond Corporation, to the David D. Reh School of Business Leadership Council (p. 7); and more.
