Biography

Cindy Hammecker-McLean has over 35 years of clinical experience working in the field of occupational therapy. Her primary area of practice has been working with adults with neurological impairments with a special interest in traumatic brain injury. She has additional clinical experience in a variety of settings including hospital, SNF, outpatient, home care, community re-entry and return-to-work capacities. Mrs. Hammecker-McLean also developed and facilitated a neurological disabilities support group in the North Country for over 10 years. In addition to 6 years at Clarkson University as a Clinical Instructor and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, her career in academia includes SUNY Canton where she served as Instructor/Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program for 10 years and Interim Program Director for 2 years. Mrs. Hammecker-McLean has presented at the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) on the NUDIST software program for analyzing qualitative data and on the role of awareness in traumatic brain injury recovery. She co-authored a chapter with Charles Christiansen, EdD, OTR/L, in Betty Bonder's book entitled Functional Performance in Older Adults. She is a past member of the Roster of Accreditation Evaluators through AOTA’s Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education.
