Our Mission

Clarkson University is an independent, nationally recognized technological university whose faculty of teacher/scholars aspires to offer superior instruction and engage in high-quality research and scholarship in engineering, business, science, health, education and liberal arts. Our primary mission is to educate talented and motivated men and women to become successful professionals through quality pre-collegiate, undergraduate, graduate and professional continuing education programs, with particular emphasis on the undergraduate experience.

Our community and campus settings enhance the quality of student life and afford students access to and interaction with their faculty. We value the diversity of our University community; and we strive to attune ourselves and our programs to our global, pluralistic society. We share the belief that humane and environmentally sound economic and social development derive from the expansion, diffusion and application of knowledge.

The Vision of A Clarkson Education

Formally adopted in 1995, the Vision of a Clarkson Education is the foundation that differentiates Clarkson graduates around the globe — first as students, then as young professionals in high demand in a highly competitive marketplace, and ultimately as CEOs, company owners and leaders with proven career and life success with remarkable mobility.  (as cited by Brookings in naming top 10 universities nationwide for ROI).

The Clarkson University educational experience is designed to provide talented and ambitious students with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve positions of leadership within their chosen profession. The combination of Clarkson’s strong technologically rich curricula and state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, coupled with an unparalleled commitment to a friendly learning environment and to students’ personal development, uniquely prepares Clarkson graduates to excel in their chosen professions and to lead rewarding and creative lives.

In addition to attaining mastery of the core knowledge within the field, a Clarkson education is designed to enable students to:

Scholarships Available to International Students

Undergraduate International Students

All accepted international students will be considered for a partial international scholarship at Clarkson. All admitted applicants are considered for merit-based International Scholarship. Separate applications are required for awards such as the Ignite Presidential Fellowship, #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship, and Honors Program. These scholarships range up to $40,000. The amount awarded is based on the student's academic record. For first-year students this includes: secondary school GPA, rigor of the curriculum, SAT and english proficiency test scores, and letters of recommendation. For transfer students, university GPA, rigor of curriculum, english proficiency test scores, and letters of recommendation are considered. International scholarships do not increase after the first year. Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress in order to maintain their international scholarship.

Clarkson does NOT offer need-based financial aid to international undergraduate students.

International students may apply for admission to our Honors Program. There is a separate application process for this program. An on-campus interview or telephone interview is also required. Federal, State, and Institutional Aid is awarded on an annual basis. It is based on full time enrollment (12 credits per semester) in both the Fall and Spring semesters. If a student is not enrolled in a semester, the aid will be pro-rated for 1 semester of attendance, i.e. 1/2 of the annual award amount. Students are not eligible to receive the annual total amount in one single semester.

The Honors Program offers unique academic challenges and experiential learning opportunities to prepare Clarkson University’s most promising students to lead fulfilling lives and to drive positive change in science, technology, and society. Admission to the Honors Program is highly competitive and requires a separate application. Learn more about the Honors Program application process.

Students interested in the Honors Program must complete the Honors Program application in addition to the regular admissions requirements for Clarkson University. The priority deadline for Honors is February 1. Early applications are welcome and will be reviewed as they are completed.

Job Opportunities

Campus Jobs

There are limited part-time positions available for international students on campus. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to secure on-campus employment. While there are some areas on campus that hire international students, our food service provider, ARAMARK, seems to be the best area to seek employment. The average student will work about eight to 10 hours per week. The pay is at the New York state minimum wage. Under the terms of the F-1 student visa, international students may work up to 20 hours per week on campus.

Off-campus Jobs

Students in F-1 status are allowed 12 months of employment authorization after degree completion, with students graduating from STEM degrees authorized for two additional years. To obtain required practical experience, current students may be eligible for internships and co-ops as well. Off-campus employment requires authorization under the regulations of the F-1 student visa. The International Center will assist students with necessary documentation.
