Several members of Clarkson’s Biochemistry & Proteomics Lab are attending the Smart Diaspora Workshop being held April 10-13, 2023 at the Western University of Timisoara. Chemistry & Biomolecular Science professor Costel C. Darie and Danielle Whitham, a Ph.D. candidate in the Biochemistry & Proteomics Laboratories in the Department of Chemistry & Biomolecular Science at Clarkson University and James Wait, a Ph.D. candidate in the Material Science Department at Clarkson will all will deliver oral presentations at the event. Dr. Darie will discuss applications of mass spectrometry in biomedical research, Danielle will present her work in biomarker discovery in breast cancer, and James will present his work in tribology and a collaborative project with Darie Lab about snakeskin.

The workshop is organized by Drs. Marius Stef , Ligia Petrica & Alina Zamfir. Professor Zamfir visited Clarkson twice and delivered four presentations: one within the Darie Labs meeting, a Biochemistry guest lecture, a Chemistry & Biomolecular Science Seminar Series, and a Walsh Seminar Series. She also sent her students to Darie Labs, funded through Marie Curie fellowships.

“I am really happy to attend this workshop,” said Whitham. “It is my second time in Romania: once in Iasi, to work with Dr. Alina Petre (summer of 2022) and now in Timisoara, to learn about Prof. Zamfir’s work and about the Romanian culture,” ended Whitham.
