November 3, 2025

Clarkson University is redefining what it means to study sustainability with the launch of its new Sustainability Scholars Program, a transformative initiative that empowers students to become innovators, problem solvers, and changemakers in the global transition to a greener future. Blending financial support with hands-on learning and mentorship, the program gives students the tools and experience to turn environmental passion into real-world impact.

The program provides a $20,000 award alongside immersive opportunities to engage with sustainability projects both on campus and in surrounding communities. Scholars will collaborate with Clarkson’s Institute for a Sustainable Environment (ISE) through internships, research, and applied learning experiences that advance energy conservation, environmental protection, and sustainable systems design.

In addition to financial aid, participants receive priority access to Adirondack courses, exclusive networking events, and research placements guided by faculty mentors. Scholars also benefit from personalized career advising and strong connections to Clarkson’s extensive alumni network, providing a launchpad for careers in environmental science, policy, and engineering.

“Clarkson is committed to turning student passion into action,” said Alan Rossner, Director of Clarkson’s Environmental Science and Sustainability undergraduate program. “This program gives students not just support, but real authority and responsibility in advancing sustainable solutions.”

Clarkson’s 640-acre campus already serves as a living laboratory for environmental innovation, powered by 100 percent renewable electricity. The Sustainability Scholars Program builds on this foundation, giving students the opportunity not only to study sustainability but to lead it—preparing the next generation of environmental leaders to shape a cleaner, more resilient world.
