17th Annual World in Potsdam Diversity Festival Writing Contest

Students of all grades are invited to participate in the 17th annual World in Potsdam Diversity Festival’s writing contest, highlighting various world cultures through the written word. The contest will run in conjunction with the November 6 festival at Clarkson University, where the winners will be announced.

The World in Potsdam celebrates the rich diversity of the residents of the North Country. The day’s events will showcase world dances, food, games, crafts, songs, and other cultural activities.

The writing contest gives students an opportunity to learn about world cultures. There are three age categories and themes: third-fifth grade, sixth-eighth grade, and ninth-12th grade.

There are monetary prizes for all age groups. The winner of the fifth grade and under age group will receive $20, second place will receive $15, and three runners-up will receive $10.

For the sixth-eighth age group, the winner will receive $30, second place will receive $20, and three runners-up will receive $10. (Sixth grade will be scored separately.)

For the ninth-12th age group, first place will receive $40, second place will receive $25, and three runners-up will receive $15.

All categories will also have honorable mentions.

The writing contest has varying topics within each age group. Participants should visit the World in Potsdam Web site at http://www.worldinpotsdam.org for a complete list of themes, rules and other information.
