Q: Why did you choose Clarkson?
A: Clarkson seemed like the friendliest school to me with one of the nicest atmospheres. The fact that it was a smaller school was also a plus.
Q: How did you get involved with FIRST Robotics?
A: I joined my high school team in my sophomore year. I had heard about it before and a couple of my friends encouraged me to join.
Q: If you could reincarnate as any animal, what would it be and why?
A: Some type of bird probably, they’re pretty social, get to travel a lot, and more or less just go with the flow.
Q: What is the extent of your involvement with FIRST Robotics?
A: I was on my High Scool team for three years as a CAD subteam student (but that didn’t keep me from jumping around a little), mentored a Jr. FLL team in high school, joined the floor when I came to Clarkson and have been mentoring teams 229 and 4124 while here at Clarkson and I recently started volunteering at FIRST Competitions as well.
Q: How does FIRST Robotics relate to your areas of study?
A: FIRST gives me great hands on engineering experience with problem solving, design, and construction principals of engineering, but it also gives me great leadership and communications skills that can’t be found in many other places.
Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
A: Video games and cookies, hands down. I try to limit both of them a bit, but I’ve had better luck with the cookies on that one.
Q: What are you hoping to gain from your summer with FIRST Robotics?
A: Being able to work with kids is a lot of fun, so I’m looking forward to that. The work we are also doing is going to be used toward a lot of our projects in the fall, so a lot of this is great training.
Q: What is the best aspect about being a part of FIRST Robotics?
A: The community is great. Everyone you’re working with is caring and you become great friends really fast.
Q: Where is your favorite spot in the North Country?
A: I love Potsdam, but Long Lake (just south of Potsdam in the Adirondacks) has one of the nicest views I’ve seen.
Q: What are your goals for the future?
A: Over the next few summers I would like to get into a few internships at a few different companies (hopefully with some of the friends I’ve made) for some more work experience. I would like to also do a graduate program, but getting a strong foothold in a company might come before that.
