Q: Why did you choose Clarkson?
A: Clarkson was very generous with my financial aid package. My dreams are as big as the city I’m from, and Clarkson is making it possible for me to make my dreams a reality.
Q: How did you get involved with FIRST Robotics?
A: I am on the executive board of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) at Clarkson. We teamed up with the FIRST Robotics team for an event on campus and it went really well. Ever since then, I’ve been more interested in working with the Robotics team.
Q: What is the extent of your involvement with FIRST Robotics?
A: I’m part of the group doing outreach into the local communities this summer. We create events that expose people of all ages to the exciting world of robotics, hopefully creating a spark that will interest them in the fields of engineering and science. If nothing else, I hope I can get them to dream big.
Q: If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?
A: John D. Carmack is widely considered to be one of the most influential people in technology. He is a brilliant mind in the field of software design, so just talking to him would be pretty awesome. Who knows, maybe I could become become insanely good at software design after a chat with him.
Q: How does FIRST Robotics relate to your areas of study?
A: Robotics is interesting in that it combines many different fields. Skills in mechanical and electrical engineering, computer science, networking, and more are important in designing the products. This is why teamwork is critical. Since my majors and interests are in software design, I am interested in programming the robots to perform the specified task.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I like to skate and play guitar. I love working with computers. Programming is a bit of a pastime for me. I can be a bit nerdy I guess, but can be pretty outgoing. More than anything, I love hanging out with my friends.
Q: What are you hoping to gain from your summer with FIRST Robotics?
A: A better understanding of the technologies associated with FIRST robotics. I’ve always been interested in the software side of things, but FIRST Robotics is giving me hands-on experience with building and physical designing, which is pretty awesome.
Q: What is the best aspect about being a part of FIRST Robotics?
A: Creating friendships and memories all while learning more is probably my favorite part about being up here this summer.
Q: What are your goals for the future?
A: I just want to be in a position where I’m happy, and see my friends happy with me.
Q: Who is your biggest role model or hero?
A: I know it’s not a person, but Google as a whole is my role model. Go figure!
