A Special Invitation for Families on October 28th and 29th, 2016

Please join us this October for our annual Family Weekend! Held each fall, this tradition is an opportunity for families to discover more about the lives of our students while enjoying student performances, faculty presentations, athletic events, and special entertainment!

We are still working on the schedule of events for Family Weekend 2016. The schedule below is entirely tentative. Please note you will be given a full schedule of events upon your arrival to the Welcome Area at the Student Center Info Desk!

Friday, October 28, 2016

  • 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. | Visits with Faculty and Staff (By appointment only. Subject to availability.)

  • 10 a.m.-7 p.m. | Hockey Ticket Pick-up (Ticket Box Office, Cheel Campus Center) Pick up reserved hockey tickets. NOTE: If you did not purchase a ticket in advance, students and families will have to pay $13 each at the box office. Students may sit in student section for free with ID this game only.

  • 3-5 p.m. | Welcome Area  (Student Center Information Desk) Pick up an event schedule, campus map & ask questions. 

  • 3 p.m. | Women’s Hockey vs. TBD (Cheel Arena) $5 admission, free w/ Clarkson ID (one entry per CU ID).

  • 4 p.m. | Women's Volleyball vs. TBD (Canton, NY at St. Lawrence University)
  • 5-11 p.m. | Club 99 Open (Next to Cheel Commons, Cheel) and Bar 9 Open (1st Floor, Student Center) Nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages are available for sale.

  • 5-6:45 p.m. | Pre-Hockey Buffet (Barben Rooms, Cheel) Buffet with cash bar. $15.99/person. Tax and tip included.

  • 5-7 p.m. | Fifth Annual SausageFest (Student Center) A can't-miss event for students and the whole family! Featuring FREE gourmet sausages, peppers and onions, popcorn, pretzels, carnival games, and activities!

  • 6 p.m. | Women's Volleyball vs. TBD (Canton, NY at St. Lawrence University)
  • 7 p.m. | Men’s Hockey vs. TBD (Cheel)  $13 admission, students sit in student section free with Clarkson ID this game only.

Saturday, October 29, 2016

  • 8-10 a.m. | Clarkson School & Honors Program Continental Breakfast Reception (Price Hall, 2nd Floor)

  • 8:30 a.m.-noon | Welcome Area (Student Center Information Desk). Pick up an event schedule, campus map & ask questions.

  • 9 a.m.-2 p.m. | Trip with Clarkson University Outing Club (Meet in front of Cheel at 8:45, caravan departs at 9 a.m.) Weather permitting.

  • 9:15-9:45 a.m. | Reh Center for Entrepreneurship: Info Session/Meet & Greet (Snell Atrium) Please join us for $1 off EntReh lattes and free coffee. Come get to know what entrepreneurial innovations the students at the Reh Center for Entrepreneurship are working on!

  • 10-10:45 a.m. | Welcome from President Tony Collins (Student Center Forum) President Collins will present current academic programs and curriculum innovations and introduce members of the Parents Committee. Light refreshments will be available.

  • 10 a.m.-7 p.m. | Hockey Ticket Pick-up (Ticket Box Office, Cheel Campus Center) Pick up reserved hockey tickets. NOTE: If you did not purchase a ticket in advance, students and families will have to pay $13 each at the box office.

  • 11 a.m.-noon | Meet & Greet with Faculty & Staff (Student Center Bar 9) Meet the faculty that teach your student's classes! Chat with the staff who support your student on campus! Representatives from various departments will attend this social hour.

  • 11a.m.-2 p.m. | Oksoberfest Bratwurst Barbecue (Student Center Patio/Bar 9) Staffed by Greek Life and the Counseling Center, in recognition of National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week. FREE: Bratwurst, German potato salad, coleslaw, hot apple cider, soda, coffee, and tea. Participate in a drunk driving simulation wearing drunk goggles, get the latest AlcoholEdu statistics, and learn how to drink smart and about alcohol poisoning intervention.

  • 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m. | Faculty Presentation: TBD (TAC 206) Q&A included!

  • 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. | Annual Air Force/Army ROTC Soccer Game (Hantz Field)

  • 12 p.m. | Women's Volleyball vs. TBD (Alumni Gym)
  • 1-4 p.m. | Family Fun: Create-a-Creature! (Student Center Multipurpose Rooms) Stuff your very own plush animal and decorate a t-shirt for it to wear! Free! 

  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. | Robotics Demonstration (ERC Atrium) Dr. Jim Carroll, Associate Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering, and robotics mentors associated with the Northern NY Robotics Academy at Clarkson will showcase hands-on robotics demos! Demos will include Lego robots, humanoid robots, drones and related K-12 activities that are run regionally both in class and on an extra-curricular basis.

  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. | Dr. Jim’s Chemistry Magic Show (Science Center 360) Seating starts at 1 p.m. 

  • 2:30-3:15 p.m. | Title IX & Enough is Enough: What Families Need to Know (Snell 212) Join Dean of Students and Lifetime Engagement Steve Newkofsky for this important session on what your students are learning about state and federal legislation.

  • 3 p.m. | Men's Soccer vs. TBD (Hantz Turf Field)

  • 3 p.m. | Women's Hockey vs. TBD (Cheel Arena) $5 admission, free w/ Clarkson ID (one entry per CU ID).
  • 3:15-4 p.m. | The Importance of Study Abroad and the Professional Experience (Snell 213) Presentation and discussion with students who have participated in professional experience programs. 

  • 3:30-4 p.m. | Faculty Presentation: TBD (TAC 208)  Q&A included!

  • 4 p.m. | Women's Volleyball vs. TBD (Alumni Gym)
  • 4:30-6 p.m. | Student Performances (Student Center Forum)

  • 8 p.m. | Clarkson Theatre Company Presents "TBD" (Old Snell Theater, Elm Street, downtown Potsdam) FREE admission!

  • 7:30 p.m. | Men’s Hockey vs. TBD (Cheel) $13 admission, standing room $10 per person. 

  • 9:30 p.m.  | Stand Up Comedy Performance: TBD (Student Center Forum) Sponsored by CUB.

Clarkson is proud to host an annual “Parent and Family Hockey Game” each year during Family Weekend, as well as a standard hockey game. Your family is invited to attend them both. Come support your Golden Knights this Fall!

mike birbiglia
Mike Birbiglia headlined our stand-up comedy show on Saturday, October 24th, 2015 in the Student Center Forum. 

Actor, director and comedian Mike Birbiglia has a one-of-a-kind storytelling style in the world of standup. Time Magazine calls him "master of the personal, embarrassing tale." The New York Times describes him as a "supremely enjoyable monologist."  A regular on This American Life, Birbiglia has appeared in TV and film, including The Fault in Our Stars, HBO's Girls and Judd Apatow and Amy Schumer's Trainwreck. Birbiglia was recently seen in a recurring role with the lovable inmates of Orange Is the New Black. His previous one-man shows on Broadway have included My Girlfriend's Boyfriend and Sleepwalk With Me

Clarkson hosted a headlining performance by John Heffron, winner of NBC's Last Comic Standing, on Saturday, October 25th, 2014.
