Why Clarkson? I chose Clarkson because I grew up in this area and I have learned to love and respect the Clarkson Community, as well as its impressive reputation. Being from this area, I also know how badly the North Country is in need of health care providers, so when I learned that Clarkson was starting a PA program, I didn't hesitate to apply. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to pursue my career, not only close to my hometown, but also in an area where I know the program will really make a difference in the community.
Best part of PA school? While PA school is extremely challenging, it’s also rewarding. After sitting in a classroom for the first semester, it was gratifying to go to the hospital in the last two semesters and apply that knowledge in an actual clinical situation. I have also met some incredible people in my classmates that I am now thankful to call my friends. With all the stress of PA school, it helps that the people next to you are going through the same thing and you can confide in each other.
Advice to applicants: Get as much hands on patient care that you can! It’s also important to do a lot of reading prior to the program. This doesn't just have to be medically focused reading, it’s also important to research the history of the profession, as well as current issues. PA school is incredibly intense and moves extremely fast, so it’s important to have a good baseline of knowledge going in.
