OAS Exam Signup Tutorial

FAQs: Exam Conflicts, Friday Exams, Evening Exams and Final Exams

If you have questions about the normal exam signup process, please view the OAS Exam Signup Tutorial linked above. You will find answers to the following Frequently Asked Questions below:

1. I have a class directly after one of my other classes. I can't finish my exams for the earlier class with my extended time and make it to my next class on time. What should I do?

2. I know that OAS closes their testing service at 4:00pm on Fridays. What should I do if I have a Friday exam that will go later than 4:00pm?

3. I have an exam at 8:00pm. However, PeopleSoft will not let me enter start times after 7:00pm. What should I do?

4. Should I enter my final exam schedule into PeopleSoft when SAS posts it?

1. I have a class directly after one of my other classes. I can't finish my exams for the earlier class with my extended time and make it to my next class on time. What should I do?

When you pick up your Green Sheet, identify any potential conflicts. You might have an exam conflict any time you have classes scheduled back-to-back.

Then, create a few possible solutions for your conflicts. Can you start the exam a little earlier? Do you need to take the exam at an entirely different time? It's best to try to keep your start time as close to the original start time as possible. OAS can help you identify options before you meet with your professor.

When you meet with your professor to go over and sign your Green Sheet, bring the conflict to his/her attention. Talk about some possible alternatives. Your professor might have other ideas as well. Once you come up with an agreeable solution, your professor should sign your Green Sheet and indicate next to their signature that you have permission to take your exams at another time.

When you sign up for your exams in PeopleSoft, enter the time you and your professor agreed upon. Then, in the Special Instructions field type, "I have permission from my professor to start this exam [early, late, etc.] due to a conflict." Save the request.

2. I know that OAS closes their testing service at 4:00pm on Fridays. What should I do if I have a Friday exam that will go later than 4:00pm?

Friday exams can also work like exam conflicts. If you have an exam that could go beyond 4:00pm on a Friday, you'll need to treat that like an exam conflict.

When you have your Green Sheet meeting with your professors, be sure to ask if they will give any exams on Fridays. If they will and the exam, with your extended time, could go past 4:00pm, suggest alternate starting times staying as close to the original time as possible. Then, complete the rest of the process as if this were a regular exam conflict.

3. I have an exam at 8:00pm. However, PeopleSoft will not let me enter start times after 7:00pm. What should I do?

The latest OAS ever starts exams is 7:00pm. We are only open until 10:00pm, and we give a lot of evening exams. To make sure you're done at a reasonable hour and to minimize distractions, we start all evening exams at 7:00pm. You should enter 7:00pm into PeopleSoft and plan on taking your exam at that time.

Please keep in mind that we close at 10:00pm Monday through Thursday. If your professor is giving a longer evening exam that would go past 10:00pm with a 7:00pm start time, please notify OAS immediately. We may have you start your exam even earlier than 7:00pm.

4. Should I enter my final exam schedule into PeopleSoft when SAS posts it?

No. OAS will enter all of your final exams for you. We will also resolve any final exam conflicts and set your locations. You are responsible for notifying us if you will not be using your accommodations for some of your finals or if there is not a final in one of your classes. You are also responsible for requesting any accommodations beyond extended time and a distraction-reduced location (anything you would have put in the "Special Instructions" field in PeopleSoft).

Once SAS posts your final exam schedule, OAS resolves any conflicts. OAS then enters your exam times into PeopleSoft for you. You should click the Accommodative Services link on your Student Service Center page to see your OAS final exam schedule. You will follow this schedule, not the schedule SAS created for you.

OAS later goes back into your exam requests to enter your exam locations. You will receive an email from PeopleSoft every time we edit your final exam schedule. Don't let these emails confuse you. Simply log on to PeopleSoft and click your Accommodative Services link to see the current state of your final exam schedule. Typically the schedule is final around two weeks before exams begin.
