Two Clarkson University students recently received awards at the 17th annual statewide College Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) Student Conference: Journeys Beyond Excellence.
Theodore D. Glave, a sophomore chemical engineering major from Bronx, N.Y., was awarded first prize for his poster presentation in the technology division on "Anti-Biofouling Surfaces Through Polymers with Controlled Architectures." He was mentored by Prof. John B. McLaughlin.
David A. Yambay, a sophomore computer engineering major from Wallkill, N.Y., received second place in the same division for his poster "Integration of Audio and Visual Speech Recognition for Liveness Detection in Biometric Verification Systems." He was mentored by Prof. Stephanie A. Schuckers.
Edward A. Howell, sophomore chemical engineering from Staten Island, N.Y., served as a conference ambassador.
Howell, Glave and Yambay are also Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) scholars.
In all, seven Clarkson University students from the CSTEP program attended the conference.
Seniors Farshad Madhi, mechanical engineering, Utica, N.Y., and Emmanuel Asare, biology, Bronx, N.Y., presented research orally.
Ivy Mensah, junior, biology, Staten Island, N.Y., and Sarah B. LaFave, junior, environmental engineering, Yorkville, N.Y., presented their research through the poster competition.
