Clarkson University Army ROTC Students Commissioned

The Army ROTC Golden Knight Battalion at Clarkson University commissioned 10 cadets into the United States Army at the annual spring commissioning this month.

CommissioningThe ceremony featured comments by Clarkson University President Tony Collins and guest speaker Air Force Col. Heather Anderson '94. Anderson is chief of the Electro-Optics Division, Directed Energy Directorate, at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico.

The ceremony included the swearing in of the new officers, the pinning of their gold bars by family members, and the traditional first salute, known as the "Silver Dollar Salute."

Receiving their commissions were Clarkson seniors Jason Cardinal, a global supply chain management major, of Potsdam, N.Y.; Katherine Poness DeVries, an aeronautical engineering major with a math minor, of Rochester, N.Y.; Dennis DeVries, a mechanical engineering and material engineering major, of Johnson, N.Y.; Sarah Halstead, a chemical engineering major, of Milford, N.H.; Nicholas Lenta, an engineering and management major, of Ijamsville, Md.; Charles Lowth, a civil engineering major, of Meredith, N.H.; Guilyan O'Kosky, an engineering and  management major, of Fonda, N.Y.; Timothy Pierce, a mechanical engineering major, of Syracuse, N.Y.; Alexandra Schwenzfeier, a biology major, of East Haddam, Conn.; and Nicholas Zapotoski, an engineering and management major, of New Paltz, N.Y.

In the coming weeks, James Carlock, a global supply chain management major, of Mount Morris, N.Y., will receive his commission as well.

Also recognized and commissioned at St. Lawrence University was Alec Savage, a history and government major, of Waterville, N.Y.
