Clarkson University Receives Support from Snap-on Tools

Snap-on Tools recently provided a generous in-kind gift to Clarkson University’s Student Projects for Engineering Experience and Design (SPEED) program, one of the Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering hallmark initiatives.

Tom Kassouf ’74 (front row, right), Clarkson University trustee and president of Snap-On Tools, toured the SPEED labs, met with students, and shared his career experiences.This gift includes an extensive supply of tools and tool storage units for the Electric Snowmobile SAE, Clean Snowmobile SAE, Formula SAE and Baja SAE teams, as well as for the School of Engineering Race Trailer.

While on campus recently, Tom Kassouf ’74, Clarkson University trustee and president of Snap-On Tools, toured the SPEED labs, met with students, and shared his career experiences.

“The enthusiasm and budding professionalism that I observed with the SPEED teams reconfirms my confidence in Clarkson’s output of industry-ready engineers,” said Kassouf.

Clarkson students will benefit from Snap-on’s gift for years to come as they solve open-ended problems that require research, creativity, and risk-taking. SPEED exemplifies Clarkson's "defy convention" approach to education, promoting multidisciplinary, project-based learning opportunities for more than 300 undergraduates annually.

Projects involve engineering design, analysis, and fabrication. In addition, students learn real-world business skills, such as budget management, effective teamwork, and communications skills.
