Stephen Sauer Receives Tenure & Promotion to Associate Professor at Clarkson University
Clarkson University President Tony Collins has announced that Stephen J. Sauer has been granted tenure and promoted from assistant professor to associate professor of consumer & organizational behavior in the School of Business.
Sauer has been a faculty member in the Department of Organizational Studies at Clarkson University’s School of Business since 2008.
His research activities focus on issues of leadership, status and diversity in management teams, and entrepreneurial team processes. He has published numerous journal articles and a book chapter, and has authored nearly 20 papers delivered at professional and academic conferences around the world.
His research has been featured in a number of mainstream media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, Forbes.com, and USA Today, among others.
Sauer’s teaching experience includes courses in negotiations, leadership, and organizational behavior at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He also conducts a number of executive education workshops and seminars in these areas, and has extensive experience leading organizational change efforts and consulting for a number of major corporations.
Sauer has received research grants from the National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research program, the School of Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship program, and the School of Business Global Supply Chain Management Program.
His honors include the 2011 Clarkson University Outstanding New Teacher Award; the 2011 Kristen Craig Memorial Faculty Award; the 2011 MBA Elective Professor of the Year; and the 2009 MBA Module Professor of the Year.
Sauer graduated with a Ph.D. in management and organizational behavior from Cornell University, where he also earned an MBA and a master’s in business and policy administration. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Prior to embarking on an academic career, he worked as an organizational change consultant and as a plant manager, and served for seven years as an armored cavalry officer in the U.S. Army.
Sauer is affiliated with the Academy of Management, the Interdisciplinary Network for Group Research, the International Association for Conflict Management, the American Psychological Association, and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
