Parshad Appointed Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Clarkson University
Rana D. Parshad has been appointed assistant professor of mathematics at Clarkson University.
He received his bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from New York University, and completed two master of arts degrees, one in applied mathematics from the University of Maryland and the other in financial mathematics from Florida State University. He received his Ph.D. in mathematics from Florida State University.
Before coming to this post, Parshad was a postdoctoral fellow at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. From May 2009 to February 2011, he was a postdoctoral research associate at Clarkson.
He taught calculus while at Clarkson and at FSU. He also taught math at the University of Maryland. He has mentored students, organized student seminars and reviewed journal articles. He has spoken at seminars in addition to making academic visits to colleges in the U.S. and abroad.
Parshad also has published numerous articles in professional journals on a variety of topics, including “A reduced modeling approach to the pricing of mortgage backed securities,” and “On the long time behavior of a PDE model for invasive species control.”
Parshad was featured in the January 2012 issue of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology newsletter as one of the two most-published post docs in 2011 in the Computer, Electrical and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering Division. In 2010, he received a National Science Foundation Travel Grant Award, 7th International Conference on Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems. In 2009, he won the Mathematics Department Graduate Research Contest at Florida State University.
In 2012, he submitted a collaborative research grant, “Intraguild predation models as a means to better understand Red Sea food chains,” to the Office of Competitive Research Services, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.
He is a member of the American Mathematical Society and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
