Clarkson University Professor's Work Featured in Korean Art Exhibition

A curated exhibition at the Daegu Art Factory Museum in Daegu, South Korea, is featuring the work of Alex Lee, an assistant professor of digital arts & sciences at Clarkson University.

An Alternate FrameworkCurated by Director Jinsan Yoo, Lee’s two pieces, "An Alternate Framework" and "The Frequency of Space/Time," are featured at the Better Than Universe exhibition, which opened October 22 and runs through December 15. The exhibition features 33 pieces of digital artwork from artists domestically and internationally, all of which illustrate ways visual art can describe multiple facets of reality.

"An Alternate Framework" and "The Frequency of Space/Time" are 3D animations simulating the astronomic phenomenon of planetary transits. Each animation follows a set of rules in order to visually represent a certain "orbiting system.” The depiction is inspired by the natural phenomenon of solar eclipses and the Kepler Mission to find extra solar planets.

"These animations capture the Zeitgeist of our contemporary experience using 3D animation as well as commenting on the nature of artifice within the medium," Lee said.

He has lectured on computer graphics and has written extensively in art publications. He recently participated in the AXIS 2013 International Art Festival in Chicago.

Lee received both his bachelor of fine arts degree with an emphasis in photography and his master of fine arts degree with an emphasis in art and technology from the School of Art Institute in Chicago.
Before coming to Clarkson, Lee was an assistant professor in the Department of Digital Media Design at Woosong University in Daejeon, Korea.
