Hurricane Irene Emergency Preparation Information
You are all aware by now that the National Weather Service is predicting high winds and heavy rain for our region late Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon (updated 8/27, 8 a.m.). Please be safe and take appropriate precautions as many of you are traveling back to campus from areas that are in the path of the hurricane.
The University has made appropriate preparations in the event that a storm impacts our normal operations. If we experience an electrical outage or severe weather, we will communicate with you through:
- the residence life staff
- signage posted on main building doors
- the Cheel building (which is an emergency shelter if one is needed)
- a website which will link from the bottom of Clarkson.edu
- NY-Alert text and e-mail messages
The Cheel building will have electricity to charge laptops and phones and will also have Internet connectivity through the wireless network.
Stay updated on the storm’s track at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT4+shtml/261445.shtml
Our purpose in sending this communication is to encourage you to be safe, to communicate our preparedness and, in the event of a storm, to let you know how we will keep you updated.
If you have questions for us, we will have the Service Center operational on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. through the storm. You can reach us by calling (315) 268-6400 and then press 0.
If you have questions about the contents of this message you can reach Devon Sutton at 315-268-6784.
