Clarkson University Silver Wings Honored As Outstanding Chapter

Clarkson University’s Silver Wings William H. Pitsenbarger Chapter received the Northeast Region’s top honor of Outstanding Chapter of Region 1 for the Year in Manchester, N.H., this past weekend.

Two Clarkson University community service groups, Silver Wings and its Air Force ROTC sister organization Arnold Air Society, were in Manchester to attend their annual Area Conclave.

Silver Wings is a national, co-ed, professional organization dedicated to creating proactive, knowledgeable, and effective civic leaders through community service and education about national defense.

The Arnold Air Society (AAS) is a professional, honorary, service organization advocating the support of aerospace power. AAS is open to officer candidates in Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps and at the United States Air Force Academy, and is formally affiliated with the Air Force Association.

Silver Wings was honored largely in part for its service projects in the Potsdam area and joint activities with its Arnold Air counterparts.

Projects included the clean-up of Big Tupper ski area, providing student coaches and mentors for the local STEM program, helping a local visually impaired woman paint her porch, and volunteering at a dinner to raise money for Parishville Marine Corporal Aaron Howell, who lost his legs to an IED attack in Afghanistan.

"Our ultimate goal is to get Silver Wings better known in Potsdam," said chapter president Casey L. Lupini, a junior chemical engineering major from Kensington, Conn. "Our associate members are planning two projects to give them a chance to interact with those outside the college community and also provide leadership development opportunities."

More joint projects are in the works, with both Silver Wings and Arnold Air Society looking to even more involved in the community.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in six alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world’s pressing issues. Through 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, sciences and health sciences, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo, and connect discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise.
