Cuomo Policy Advisor Maggiore to Speak at Clarkson University for Constitution Day
In celebration of Constitution Day, John Maggiore, policy advisor for New York State Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo, will speak at Clarkson University on Wednesday, September 15, at 7 p.m. in the Cheel Campus Center Barben Rooms.
Maggiore will speak on a topic relevant to the constitutional rights afforded to Americans. The discussion, titled "Sex Offenders, Prisoner Lawsuits, and Student Loans?," will explore the role of the state attorney general’s office in these widely disparate issues and tie in with the greater scope of government.
Each year, Clarkson University honors the United States Constitution on Constitution Day or during the week on which it falls.
Besides acting as Cuomo’s policy advisor, Maggiore is also intimately involved with the agency’s communications, outreach and intergovernmental operations. He also serves as the attorney general’s representative on the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority.
Prior to joining the attorney general’s executive staff, Maggiore served as an administrator at Buffalo State College in the dual capacities as assistant to the president for communications and director of government relations for the college. He was also a lecturer in the Political Science Department.
Maggiore’s 2005 work as staff manager of the Erie County Stabilization Project was instrumental in developing a report containing 128 proposals that ultimately served as a key foundation for Erie County’s strategic plan for balancing the budget and streamlining county government. Maggiore later served on the Erie County Charter Revision Commission, which produced a series of charter changes that were approved by voters in 2006.
Maggiore served as chief of staff for Assemblyman Sam Hoyt for nearly 10 years. His prior government service included the positions of staff assistant to HUD Secretary Andrew Cuomo and confidential assistant to Governor Mario Cuomo.
Maggiore has master’s degrees in public administration and political science from Harvard, and a bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College. In addition to Buffalo State College, Maggiore has taught political science classes at the University at Buffalo and Canisius College.
Born and raised in Buffalo, Maggiore divides his time between Buffalo, Albany and all of New York state.
