The featured cuisine, taken from the Middle East, southern and northern Africa, China, the Caribbean, eastern Europe, Indian, and southeast Asia, will be served to all who attend the festival free of charge from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. wipfood2007

Some examples of the international dishes include baklava, vegetable tajine with couscous, Thai noodle salad, Philippine spring rolls, vegetable pancakes with duck sauce, gingered smoothies with island fruit, spicy peanut soup, and pita with white bean dip.

Other events include performances by the Rhythm Mission (1 p.m.), the Crane School of Music Latin Ensemble (2 p.m.), the First Baptist Hand Bell Choir (2:30 p.m.), the Golden Knotes, the Pointercounts, and the A-Sharp Arrangement (all 2:45 p.m.), and student groups from SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson (3:15 p.m.).

Winners of the annual World in Potsdam Writing Contest will be announced directly following the noontime opening ceremonies.

In addition, there will be numerous activities, hands-on crafts, demonstrations and international displays for everyone to enjoy. Children will particularly enjoy the Pinata Party from 2 to 2:30 p.m.

The main event is a performance by the Rhythm Mission at the Downtown Snell Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 8. Admission is free.

The World in Potsdam Diversity Festival not only highlights the world’s cultures and peoples, but it also brings members of the Potsdam community together to celebrate the town’s unique and diverse cultural heritage.
