As part of the annual World in Potsdam Diversity Festival, three local college a cappella groups will be performing in a 30-minute show during the November 8 celebration.
SUNY Potsdam’s A-Sharp Arrangement and Pointer Counts, and Clarkson University’s Golden Knotes will perform.
A-Sharp Arrangement, an all-female group, was formed at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam in 1993. Although it started out as a doo-wop and barber shop group, the A-Sharps have transformed their sound to more popular styles along with some favorite oldies.
The Golden Knotes are Clarkson University’s a cappella group. A co-ed group, the Knotes is made up of students with majors across the curriculum who share a love for music and performance. They perform a mixed repertoire of pop, classic rock, oldies, jazz, and classical music.
SUNY Potsdam’s all-male a cappella group, the Pointercounts, was founded in 1992. The group, made up of 13 men, performs a variety of styles of music, including pop, classic a cappella, barbershop, and 80s and 90s.
All three groups have previously performed in the local communities, visiting schools, festivals, and other events.
The show is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, from 2:45 to 3:15 at Clarkson’s Cheel Campus Center during the World in Potsdam Diversity Festival.
Other events throughout the day at the World in Potsdam Festival include the Children’s Chorus of Crane School of Music, food samples from around the world, the Crane School of Music Latin Ensemble, the Noteworthy Hand Bell Choir, Clarkson and SUNY Potsdam student performances, and "The Rhythm Mission" concert.
The festival and all of its activities are free of charge.
The World in Potsdam Diversity Festival is sponsored by Clarkson University, SUNY Potsdam, and the Village of Potsdam.
