Barry serves as scientific board president for Ansted University. She is an officer for the NNY section of the American Chemical Society, a certified professional chemist, author of six published books, and has permanent teacher certification in New York state to teach chemistry and general science in grades 7-12.
In collaboration with Professor Hideyuki Kanematsu of Japan, Barry is carrying out an international program in creative education (with sponsorship from the Northern New York Section of the American Chemical Society and Suzuka National College of Technology in Japan). The main goals of the project are to turn children of all ages onto science and engineering and to develop their critical- thinking and problem-solving skills. This program is described in detail in the June 2006 issue of The Chemist (article: International Program to Promote Creative Thinking in Chemistry and Science, authored by Barry and Kanematsu). The two have also written an article featuring their program in a 2006 issue of the prestigious Japanese Journal Materia Japan. Barry served as a visiting professor in
the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Suzuka National College of Technology, Japan, in 2002 and 2005.
