Businessman/ Philanthropist and Small Pox Eradication Program Director Will Address Graduates at Clarkson University Commencement May 14
More than 700 Clarkson University students will be granted bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees at commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 14. The weekend will also be marked by the commissioning of eight United States Army and nine United States Air Force officers on Saturday, May 13.
Receiving honorary degrees and addressing students, families and guests will be:
- Alphonse "Buddy" Fletcher Jr., chairman and CEO of Fletcher Asset Management, Inc., a company he started in 1991. Fletcher recently initiated a $50 million gift to award fellowships to scholars, writers and artists working on civil rights issues. He won the 2004 United Negro College Funds Extraordinary Black Man Award in 2004.
During the commencement ceremony, two faculty members will be honored with the John W. Graham Jr. Faculty Research Award and the Clarkson University Distinguished Teaching Award. Three retiring Clarkson faculty members will also be named professor emeriti in recognition and appreciation for their years of service to the University.
The Levinus Clarkson Award and the Frederica Clarkson Award will be bestowed upon two students who have demonstrated unsurpassed scholarship and promise of outstanding academic achievement.
