Clarkson University’s Center for Rehabilitation Engineering, Science and Technology (CREST) will present two lectures on Friday, August 26.
Dr. Charles Robinson, CREST director, will present the inaugural Herman L. Shulman lecture titled “Rehabilitation Engineering, Science and Technology – Engineering for the REST of Us.” President Tony Collins will also speak detailing the generous gift of the Coulter Foundation in establishing CREST and the Shulman Chair in Rehabilitation Engineering.
The Shulman lecture will be followed by a guest lecture that kicks off The Clarkson University Honors Program HP200 and its chosen topic for this year “Clarkson Campus Landscape – Functional Routes & Enhancing Community Paths.” The lecture is titled “Universal Design for Accessible Routes,” and will be delivered by renowned architect Robert Dale Lynch, American Institute of Architects (AIA) fellow, and president of RD Lynch and Associates, Pittsburgh, Pa. Lynch and his firm specialize in accommodative architectural designs and services. His talk will focus on the six elements of Universal Design and how they can be universally applied to provide accessibility to all, with and without disability, in a pleasing, functional and cost-effective manner.
The Shulman lecture will be delivered at 9 a.m. in Clarkson’s Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP), room 176, followed immediately by Mr. Lynch’s lecture. The media and community are invited to attend both lectures.
Mr. Lynch, Dr. Robinson, and others from Clarkson will tour LEAP House (Living, Exploring, All Possibilities) at 22 Cherry Street in Potsdam on 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. LEAP House, founded by a mother with a disabled child and operated by the families of its clients, has four residence homes serving 12 clients with varying degrees of disability.
