Clarkson University Appoints Director Of Research And Technology Transfer

Gregory C. Slack has been selected to lead Clarkson University’s Division of Research (DOR). As director of the Division of Research and Technology Transfer, Slack will oversee the conduct and promotion of all research activities at the University.
The DOR staff develops grant proposals and provides administration of grant contract support from federal, state, and private organizations for the University; assures that the University is in compliance with federal, state, private, and other regulations pertaining to grant sponsorship activities; and is responsible for the creation, submission and analyses of required reports and policies.
Slack received his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam. He has over 13 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry serving increasingly responsible research and manufacturing roles at Dupont, Bristol-Myers Quibb and most recently at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Slack has also had academic experience, serving as adjunct research assistant professor of Chemistry at Clarkson, adjunct professor at SUNY Plattsburgh and instructor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, Continuing Education. He has authored or co-authored numerous publications and presented at professional conferences.
“Through his former employment and education, Dr. Slack brings to Clarkson the skills necessary to lead project teams with diverse backgrounds; a proven understanding of technology transfer requirements; experience in coordination of research funding between academics and industry; and the ability to foster relationships between industry, academics, and professional educators,” said Tom Young Clarkson University Provost. “He is familiar with the unique environment of the North Country and the strength of Clarkson University research centers.
