Clarkson Invention Institute Seeks Project Proposals

The Clarkson Invention Institute (CII) is accepting proposals for future CII projects from local individuals, businesses, faculty, and students. Proposals are due no later than Friday, July 30, 2004.

CII evaluates new products using the interdisciplinary, team-based model of business ventures. Clarkson University engineering students conduct feasibility studies, design, and ultimately build and test a prototype. In some cases, business students will assess potential demand for the invention at different price points, working closely with the engineers. If there are product liability issues or intellectual property issues to be researched and dealt with, the combined team will work together with advice from faculty.

The process helps students understand the need for total corporate cooperation in bringing a product to market, and helps inventors determine whether their idea has practical market value.

Individuals, businesses or faculty proposing a project must agree to serve as adjunct faculty or as advisors for the project. An accepted proposal will be staffed according to the work in the proposal, with student workers and faculty mentors coming from the Clarkson community.

For additional information on the program and how to apply, contact Donna Sevey, Shipley Center for Leadership and Entrepreneurship, at 315-268-3811 or by e-mail at .
