Clarkson Hosts Business Communication Workshop For Area Business Teachers
Clarkson University Department of Technical Communications professors and staff recently shared information on the latest trends in business communication with local high school business teachers at a workshop co-sponsored by St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES and Clarkson’s Eastman Kodak Center for Excellence in Communication (CEC).
The business teachers conference was planned and designed through the collaborative efforts of Professor and CEC Director Johndan Johnson-Eilola, Brasher Falls high school teacher Ann Norton, and BOCES representative Robert Holland. The all-day workshop was held on the Clarkson campus. Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences David Powers, Professor Brenton Faber, CEC Writing Center Director Barbara Brady, and Senior Communication Specialist Dan Dullea also participated.
“The feedback from the conference participants was very positive,” said Prudence Posner, St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES school improvement supervisor. “The teachers and administrators in our school districts value greatly our relationship with Clarkson. Between the outstanding staff development programs provided by Clarkson faculty at events like the business communications workshop and the wonderful school-based partnerships that we’ve developed with the University, the teachers and students of this region have benefited greatly.”
“We are excited about working with the Center for Excellence in Communication again in the future to provide opportunities for our teachers to acquire new skills and knowledge they can use in the classroom,” added Posner. The Clarkson University Eastman Kodak Center for Excellence in Communication is a key resource in support of Clarkson’s goal of achieving maximum potential for the educational process through the effective integration of electronic technology and media. It provides communication support to students and faculty across the University through its facilities, which include a 22-seat communication and technology training classroom, teamwork areas, a digital video production room, a usability testing lab, and a writing center. In addition, the CEC staff offers communication curriculum consulting, special project support, and distance education design advice and support.
