Clarkson University Professor Delivers Prestigious Lecture In Korea
Clarkson University Vice Provost of Research and Professor of Chemical Engineering S. V. Babu delivered a lecture to members of the Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry (KSIEC) at the Society’s annual meeting held in November in Ansan, South Korea.
Babu was invited to deliver the first annual lecture in the Dongjin Lecture Series that was established earlier this year through an endowment by KSIEC President Boosup Lee. Lee is chairman and CEO of Dongjin Semichem, a Korean-based chemical company with $130 million in sales annually.
His lecture focused on recent developments and emerging challenges in the field of chemical-mechanical planarization of metal and dielectric firms for the fabrication of multilevel metallization structures in computer chips like Pentium 3 and 4 as well as more advanced ones that are in the design and planning stages.
Babu is also the director of Clarkson’s Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP), a research and educational center dedicated to high-technology materials processing and their application in industry and business. His own research interests include chemical-mechanical planarization, surface-particle interactions, and deposition and characterization of diamond-like carbon films.
KSIEC is one of the leading scientific societies in Korea and also one of the largest with over 4,000 members.
