Beekman Appointed Clarkson University Director Of Major Gifts
Peter A. Beekman of Canton has been appointed director of Major Gifts at Clarkson University.
Beekman will begin his duties at Clarkson September 2. He has previously served at St. Lawrence University and the University of Vermont.
“We are fortunate to have someone with Pete’s extensive background and experience in fundraising join our staff at Clarkson,” said Clarkson Vice President for Institutional Advancement Michael E. Cooper. “Pete brings to the table more than 20 years of fund-raising experience and a familiarity with philanthropy, which will serve Clarkson well. We’re excited about him joining our staff and look forward to his arrival.”
While at St. Lawrence Beekman held the positions of associate vice president for Development, director of Development, and director of Leadership Gifts. He served as interim vice president during the university’s recent transition in leadership. While Beekman was at St. Lawrence, Campaign St. Lawrence raised its goal from $75 million to $130 million and is well on its way to reaching its new target by December 31, 2002.
“I am looking forward to joining the Clarkson team and to helping them build on their most recent fund-raising endeavor, The Campaign for Clarkson,” said Beekman. “They’ve had great success in raising funds in their campaign and I am looking forward to helping them close out this fund-raising project as they begin positioning themselves for the future.”
Before coming to St. Lawrence, Beekman was at the University of Vermont as a senior development officer, interim director of Alumni Relations, and director of the UVM Fund, having been promoted from associate and assistant director.
Beekman holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Vermont and is an avid hockey fan. He’s been active in minor hockey, as well as booster activities at his previous institutions. He lives in Canton with his wife Barbara and their two children.
