Clarkson Center For The Environment Unveils New Name, Expanded Scope

Clarkson University’s Center for Environmental Management is expanding its scope and changing its name to the Clarkson Center for the Environment. Through these changes, the center will continue to move toward its goal of being recognized as a national leader in interdisciplinary environmental research, with supporting education and outreach programs.

Recognizing that environmental problems increasingly require the expertise of many disciplines and points of view, the Center promotes partnerships and interdisciplinary activities that enable the integration of basic and applied research, providing the increased understanding about environmental systems that is needed for informed decisions and policies.

The Clarkson Center for the Environment is reaching out to involve more faculty who are addressing a broad range of environmental issues in their research and educational activities. The Center will sponsor workshops, seminars, and a small grants program to foster links among its members and facilitate environmental activities.

The Clarkson Center for the Environment, including associated faculty from across campus, is home to Clarkson’s environmental research activities; graduate and undergraduate degree programs with a focus on environmental science, policy and engineering; campus environmental initiatives; and outreach programs. The Center was established in 2000 in order to support Clarkson’s long-standing expertise in this field and to increase collaboration among faculty.

More information about the Center can be found at http://www.clarkson.edu/cce.

Questions about the new direction of the Center can be addressed to Susan Powers, interim director, at sep@clarkson.edu, or Bill Vitek, associate director, at vitek@clarkson.edu.
