Clarkson Is One Of Two Finalists For National Entrepreneurship Education Award
Clarkson University has been selected as one of two national finalists for the prestigious 2002 National Award in Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Education. The award is sponsored by the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) and recognizes innovative and effective undergraduate entrepreneurship education.
The winner will be announced on January 20, during USASBE's Annual Conference in Reno, Nev. During the conference, Clarkson will make a presentation to the judges on its undergraduate business and entrepreneurship curriculum; the other finalist, the University of Arizona, will also make a presentation.
Unlike most business schools, which postpone experiential business learning until the senior year, Clarkson requires students to launch actual business ventures within days of arriving on campus. As freshmen, students establish and run an entrepreneurial business of their own design. During the sophomore year, students may opt to join Venture@Moore House, an innovative residential learning experience in which students live together and operate a business in a corporate setting. During junior and senior years, students have additional opportunities to work with case studies and consulting groups.
Many students are also involved in extracurricular learning opportunities such as Students in Free Enterprise, the Collegiate Entrepreneur's Organization, and the Visiting Executive Program.
Clarkson's presentation to the judges at the USASBE conference will be delivered by School of Business Dean Sugrue, Executive Director of the Shipley Center for Leadership and Entrepreneurship Stub Estey, Director of Entrepreneurship Programs Marc Compeau, and student CEO of Venture@Moore House Jess Conklin.
