Clarkson University Names Christopher Ritter Director Of University Marketing
Clarkson University President Denny Brown has announced the appointment of Christopher Ritter as director of University Marketing. In this newly created position, Ritter will lead a concentrated effort to raise the University's profile through a strategic marketing initiative.
"We are delighted that Chris has accepted the challenge of crafting a long-term marketing and communications strategy that will steadily raise the institution's visibility with a wide range of audiences," said President Brown. "Ultimately, his effort will translate into broader and deeper support for Clarkson at every level, from student and faculty recruiting through fundraising."
Since 1994, Ritter has been a partner with Eric Mower and Associates Inc., of Syracuse, N.Y., the largest marketing communications agency in New York State outside of Manhattan, with offices in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany. Having begun with the agency in 1980 as a copywriter, he rose through executive and supervisory positions to serve as director of Client Services for the past three years.
"Chris brings a combination of successful experiences in marketing, research planning, and communications management in industries as diverse as higher education, health care, energy and retail that will be valuable in broadening Clarkson's marketing approach," said President Brown. Ritter's development of integrated marketing strategies includes a recent effort for a higher education institution that helped boost first-year student enrollment by 30 percent.
The senior cabinet-level position reports directly to the president. "Our strategic marketing effort will have the highest priority," said President Brown. "The entire University community joins me in welcoming Chris in this new and very important position."
Ritter will assume his new Clarkson responsibilities on October 25.
