Sephir Hamilton Of Poughkeepsie Receives The Levinus Clarkson Award

Sephir D. Hamilton of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., son of Lloyd Hamilton, Rhinebeck, N.Y., and Judith Zimmer, New Lebanon, N.Y., recently received the Levinus Clarkson Award during Clarkson University’s 106th Commencement Ceremony in Potsdam, N.Y. The mechanical engineering major was selected for the $1,000 award by the University faculty, based on his scholarship and promise of outstanding professional achievement.
Hamilton graduated from Clarkson with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.86. During his four years at Clarkson, he served as a laboratory assistant in the mechanical engineering department, was a Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation Sponsored Scholar and Scholarship Intern, and participated in the NASA Langley Aerodynamic Research Summer Scholars Program.
Hamilton also served as president of Phalanx, the University’s highest honor society; as editor-in-chief and photo editor of the Clarkson Integrator; as co-founder and president of the Clarkson Photo Club; as a mascot for Clarkson hockey games; and as intramural hockey captain. His volunteer work includes the Special Friends Program, the Easter Seals Softball Classic and serving as Little League assistant coach.
Hamilton, a Presidential Scholar, was the recipient of the Dean William J. Farrisee Memorial Award, the Commendable Leadership Award and the Commendable Service Award. He was also a member of the Tau Beta Pi national engineering honor society and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Clarkson University is an independent institution located in northern New York, in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. The University has 2,749 graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in programs in its schools of Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts, and Science, and its Interdisciplinary Engineering and Management program.
