Clarkson University Students To Enjoy New State-of-the-art Fitness Center
Fitness Center Groundbreaking (available by noon on Monday, April 20)
Potsdam, N.Y. – The days of sitting in the dormitory lounge watching television between classes are over. In a world filled with roller blades, expensive athletic shoes, and new cardiovascular fitness machines introduced every week, college students are into keeping fit. When it comes to keeping up with these trends, Clarkson University is no couch potato either. The school will ceremonially break ground on a new state-of-the-art Fitness Center on Saturday, April 18, at 1:30 p.m.
Long requested by the University's students and prospective students, the facility will boast aerobic exercise, free-weight and circuit training, cardiovascular training, and warm-up areas. The building, being constructed between the Alumni Gym and the Indoor Recreation Center, will also be the new home for Clarkson's Athletic Hall of Fame.
Today's college students place great value on personal wellness, recreation and physical fitness, said Clarkson University President Denny Brown. "The impact that this new Fitness Center will have on reinforcing health and fitness as an important part of student life at Clarkson is clear. It will provide a significant improvement in the quality of student life."
This will be more than just a place to work out, added Vice President for Student Affairs Michael E. Cooper. "It will be another place on campus where students can socialize and build better relationships with their classmates and professors. The Fitness Center will definitely become an important element of social life within our Clarkson community."
The public is invited to the April 18 groundbreaking ceremony. For more information, contact Gail Baxter at 315-268-6467.
