Clarkson University Professor Publishes New Engineering Book
Sathyamoorthy was invited by CRC Press to write the book in May 1994 as part of a series in mechanical engineering under the editorship of Professor Frank Kulacki, dean of Engineering at the University of Minnesota. The structural elements included in this text are essential components in a variety of structures and vehicles such as spacecrafts and missiles, underwater vessels, off-shore structures and modern housing.
Sathyamoorthy says that today's engineers and designers must have an understanding of the nonlinear behavior of these elements under various loading conditions. The purpose of his text is to provide a comprehensive treatment of the analysis techniques with numerous examples.
The book presents a complete evaluation of the nonlinear static and dynamic behavior of beams, rods, plates, shells, trusses, frames, mechanisms, stiffened structures, sandwich structures, and includes both mathematical treatment and real-word applications. It also contains a useful and informative chapter on recent developments in the application of symbolic computation techniques to the solution of a variety of linear and nonlinear structural problems.
Each chapter has a large number of references and bibliography for further reference and reading. The book should be suitable for graduate students, practicing engineers, applied mathematicians, and scientists who have the desire to learn nonlinear methods of solution for structural problems from one source. Due to its unique character, the book should also serve as an authoritative reference in nonlinear mechanics. Further information on the book is available on the Internet at http://www.crcpress.com.
