Undergraduate Orientation

Wednesday, August 20

All new undergraduate/exchange students arrive to campus. Please use this day to settle into rooms and/or apartments and rest from your journey!

NOTE - Canadian students can arrive by Thursday, August 22, 2014

Thursday, August 21

8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. - International Student Check-In (Location: ERC 2300)

Upon arrival you will be required to 'check-in' with the International Students & Scholars Office. This is to confirm your arrival to Clarkson within SEVIS (Student & Exchange Visitor Information System). Please be sure to bring the following items with you... 

  • I-20/DS-2019 - Certificate of Eligibility
  • Passport
  • Visa
  • I-94 - Arrival/Departure Card – new electronic I-94 in place unless crossing from Canada. Please visit
  • Address where you are living in Potsdam

9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. – Undergraduate/Exchange Welcome (Location: Student Center MPR A/B)

All new undergraduate and exchange students can meet for a continential breakfast. Here we will welcome you and send you off on the next leg of your orientation journey!

9:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Campus Tour (Location: Meet in Student Center Forum - Ground Floor)

Take a tour of the campus and see where your classes will be...

12:00 - 2:00 p.m. - Lunch on your own using your meal voucher at the Student Center Servery or Java City

Avoid the lines on Friday - use this time to take care of any miscellaneous items; i.e. International Student Check-In; I.D. card - mailbox key - student schedule/account

1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - ESL Testing for new undergraduate students (Location: 177 Snell Hall)

Testing is mandatory for all incoming matriculated undergraduate students for whom English is a second language. For student who are transferring to Clarkson University from another U.S. institution must show grade of ‘C’ or better in applicable English course – please see Judy Simon (164 Snell Hall) for details.

1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. – ESL Writing Placement for new exchange students (Location: 177 Snell Hall)

NOTE - Some exchange students may need this testing for EAP placement – please see your academic advisor if needed.

2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Exchange Student Orientation (Location: Student Center MPR A/B)

4:00 p.m. - Shopping Bus (Location: Meet in the Student Center/ERC Parking Lot)

We will provide a bus that will take you to Wal-Mart 

Note - we will have some cell phone providers on campus in the Student Center. Stop by there table anytime this afternoon or on Friday for more information.

Dinner on your own using your meal voucher in the Student Center Servery or Java City

Friday, August 22

8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. - International Student Check-In (Location: ERC 2300)

8:30 a.m. - New Undergraduate Student Continental Breakfast (Location: Student Center MPR A/B/C)

9:00 a.m. – 10 a.m. – Undergraduate International Student Session – this session is mandatory to review your immigration status responsibilities – employment benefits – and – student life at Clarkson. (Location: Student Center MPR A/B) MUST ATTEND!

10:00 – 11:00 a.m. – Academic Integrity Session – this session is mandatory for all international undergraduate/exchange students (Location: Student Center MPR A/B) MUST ATTEND!

11:30 a.m. - Book Bus (Location: Meet in front of Cheel Campus Center)

We will provide transportation downtown to the University Bookstore. The last bus returns at 5 p.m.

7:00 p.m. – University Orientation Begins!
