St. Lawrence County Math & STEM Partnership
Faculty and students from Clarkson University and nearby universities work together with 200 local teachers of mathematics and science. This program is funded by New York State in the "No Child Left Behind" program, Title IIB. The primary goal is to "increase academic achievement of students in mathematics and science by enhancing the content knowledge and teaching skills of classroom teachers."
The program includes one-day workshops, week-long summer institutes and ongoing support with educating teachers and students how to incorporate more applications and problem-based learning into their math, science, technology, and engineering curriculums at all grade levels. The program is coordinated through the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES with Clarkson University as the lead higher education institution.
Students also have the opportunity to get involved as coaches for local schools' MATHCOUNTS, Science Olympiad, IMPETUS, and FIRST Robotics teams. Our local programs also include Clarkson Mathletics a similarly styled local event held in November.
