TAC LEED Gold Features:

  • Combined heat and power plant that provides building heating, cooling, and electricity at a higher efficiency than conventional boilers and grid connected electricity
  • Rain water collection system that provides grey water for building toilets and landscape watering
  • White roof to reduce heat island effect
  • High efficiency lighting combined with occupancy sensors and daylight sensors to minimize electricity demand for lighting
  • Large quantities of southern facing glazing for passive solar heating with horizontal window shades that allow solar gain during the winter months and eliminates solar gain during the summer months
  • Increased quantities of insulation on the roof to reduce energy loss
  • All paint and finishes are low VOC
  • The heating system is designed using Variable Air Volume boxes which allow for efficient heating and cooling of individual rooms allowing for greater occupant comfort. All air handling units have variable frequency drivers for energy reduction.

Student Center LEED Silver Features

  • Location was planned in the center of the hill campus with services within walking distance
  • No new parking was needed for the building..maintained green space
  • There is a green open space adjacent to the building that is equal to the size of the building
  • All water fixtures in the building meet performance criteria to reduce water consumption
  • Additional insulation was added on exterior walls as well as the built-up roofing to reduce energy loss
  • 10% of construction materials were manufactured within 500 miles to reduce transportation energy use
  • 50% of all wood based materials are certified in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council's Criteria
  • All paint and finishes have low emissions of harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
  • 75% of the spaces inside the building have daylight of views to the outdoors to reduce the amount of energy used for lighting
  • The smoke evacuation system inside the building is used to increase the air flow throughout the building to avoid using the HVAC system 
  • Window shades were all made from recycled materials
  • All windows are dual pane, thermal insulated
  • Concrete blocks for structural support within the Student Center made with aggregate from recycled materials that was developed by students and faculty in the Department of Civil  & Environmental Engineering
