Putting a Chill on Global Warming
Molly Ball ’14 realized that keeping food cold is helping heat up the earth’s atmosphere. Thanks to The Clarkson Fund’s support of the Sustainability Fund, she measured the energy consumption of every refrigerator on campus—in labs, apartments, and dining halls. Then she set up a plan to replace the oldest, least efficient fridges with newer models that would consume less electricity, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions and saving on the utility bill. Molly and her fellow Clarkson students are at the forefront of intelligent resource use on campus.
