Research Interests

Dr. McLaughlin is performing research on several projects involving fluid mechanics and one project that involves modeling of polymeric films:

•    Development of a grid electrode precipitator for indoor air applications such as clean rooms. Collaborators: Cameron Manufacturing, Dr. Xinli Jia (Research Associate), John Dunn (Research Scientist), and Jim Cunningham (Alliance for Manufacturing & Technology).   The project is funded by the Syracuse Center of Excellence – Metropolitan Development Agency CAP Program.

•    DNS of the air flow around an airfoil equipped with synthetic jet actuators. Collaborators: Dr. Xinli Jia and Professor Goodarz Ahmadi. The project is funded by AFOSR.

•    DNS of the temperature and velocity fields in a small room. Collaborators: Dr. Xinli Jia, Professor Goodarz Ahmadi, Professor Brian Helenbrook, and Professor Mark Glauser (Syracuse University).   The project was funded by the Syracuse Center of Excellence CARTI Program.

•    Modeling of dispersions of carbon nanotubes in polymeric ionic liquids for photovoltaic applications. Collaborators: Dr. Xinli Jia, Professor Sitaraman Krishnan, Theodore Glave (undergraduate), Edward Howell (undergraduate), and Edward Howell (undergraduate).  The project is funded by the U.S. Army. Theodore Glave and Edward Howell were supported by the McNair Summer Program for 2010. Theodore Glave is also working on a senior thesis for the Clarkson University Honors Program.
