Clarkson Student Spotlight: October '11
Jasmine Gifford ‘13
Aretê (global supply chain management and psychology)
As a junior at Clarkson, Watertown, N.Y. native Jasmine has already had plenty of opportunities to get involved on campus. And it’s safe to say she has taken advantage of those opportunities, considering she’s a member of the D’Amuge Fund, Theta Phi Alpha sorority, the Adopt-A- Bear Cub Program, and the Society of Human Resources Management. Not to mention, she plays leadership roles on the C-Step Advisory Board and as treasurer of the Diverse Student Union. We caught up with Jasmine to learn more about her Clarkson experiences. Check it out.
Q: What unique experiences have you had at Clarkson?
A: One of the most unique experiences I’ve had at Clarkson was participating in a chicken wing eating contest and almost beating the guys I was going against. I came in second place! I also joined a sorority, making friends with people I might have never known.
Q: Tell us something people would be surprised to know about you.
A: I love cows. At state fairs my favorite part is to go look at the award winning dairy cows.
Q: Who has been your favorite professor so far?
A: My favorite professor is Chris Robinson in the Humanities & Social Sciences department. He has been such a large part of my motivation and he’s always willing to help.
Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
A: My superpower would be to turn back time. There are never enough minutes in a day.
Q: Who is your hero?
A: My heroes are my parents. Although life is not always easy, they have found a way to constantly support me and my endeavors. Without them, whether good or bad time, I would not be where I am at in life today.
Q: Why did you choose Clarkson?
A: I choose Clarkson because of the welcoming community. I liked the fact that I would be able to get one-on-one help with professors, due to the smaller size of the college. Being an hour and fifteen minutes away from home is a small plus as well.
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: My favorite hobby is definitely reading, all genres I enjoy. I also like to dance, singing in the shower and sleeping for sure.
Q: What are your goals for the future?
A: I love helping people, so in the future I would like to become a social worker or a probation officer.
Q: If you could reincarnate as any animal, which would it be?
A: Well, I think I would be a jaguar. I would have the scenery of a beautiful forest every day, lounge in a tree, and have food available all the time.
Q: What does “defy convention” mean to you?
A: “Defy Convention” simply means being yourself in everything you do and always trying to bring new innovative ideas to the table, not only for yourself, but for others.
