Alfredo Hernandez ‘12

Massena, NY native Alfredo didn’t have to travel far to find the perfect university, since his hometown is just 19 miles from campus. But he assures us that he feels like he’s in another world at Clarkson, especially when he’s taking part in clubs like Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, where he is the Extracurricular VP of Professional Programs. In this role, Alfredo coordinates activities, such as Clarkson’s celebration of the IBM Watson challenge last fall. Let’s see what else he’s up to.
Q: Why did you choose Clarkson?
A: I chose Clarkson because of their great reputation with their business programs. Knowing that as a freshman I would create and run a business with my classmates was definitely something to look forward to. It ended up being my favorite class!
Q: What does “defy convention” mean to you?
A: It means thinking outside the box and doing the impossible. Nothing is impossible. The word says it itself - I’m Possible.
Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
A: My guilty pleasure would have to be food. I love learning to cook many different kinds of food as well as trying everything at least one time.
Q: Why did you choose your particular major?
A: I chose to be a finance major because I was always good with handling money and numbers. With my dream of owning my own restaurant, I think it will be essential for me to learn the books behind the business.
Q: What unique experiences have you had at Clarkson?
A: I went on one of the Global Business Programs to Asia. We went to Singapore and Hong Kong, it was a beautiful and once in a lifetime experience.
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: My hobbies would have to be playing all sorts of card games, bowling, and learning to cook.
Q: What are your goals for the future?
A: My goals the future are to eventually own my family’s restaurant.
Q: What are your plans for the summer?
A: This summer I am interning with Primerica as a Life Agent selling life insurance, as well as working at my other job as a sales associate at Express. I also plan to travel to a few different cities to visit friends and family.
Q: Where is your favorite place in the world?
A: I have not specific spot, I would have to say anywhere as long as I have my friends and best friends there with me.
