CAMP Professor Pier Marzocca Receives Tenure and Promotion
Assistant Professor Pier Marzocca has been granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor in Clarkson University’s Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering. He received his doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, Italy, and worked as a postdoctoral researcher and Visiting Assistant Professor in Engineering Science and Mechanics at Virginia Tech before coming to Clarkson in 2003. His expertise focuses on the structural dynamics and control of advanced aerospace systems, including active flow and aeroelastic controls of flexible structures and unmanned aerial vehicle systems. Marzocca’s recent projects have involved the development of novel wind turbine systems, modeling and design of functionally graded structures, energy harvesting, development of computational aeroelastic and aerodynamic tools, reliability of complex industrial systems and components, and unmanned aerial vehicle systems. Professor Marzocca has also been working on structural health monitoring and damage detection in structural systems.
Professor Marzocca leads or co-leads research projects that have totaled more than $4 million in funding from governmental agencies, private foundations, and industry. He has more than 150 publications in archival journals and conference proceedings, and has received several awards, including the Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award from the Society of Automotive Engineering, and Clarkson’s Outstanding New Teacher Award.
In addition, he serves as chair of the SAE Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems Technical Committee and as a Visiting Professor in the Aerospace Structures Department at Delft University of Technology, Netherlands.
The CAMP newsletter is published four times per year by the Center for Advanced Materials Processing, a NYSTAR-designated Center for Advanced Technology located at Clarkson University.
