New York State Pollution Prevention Institute Partners with Clarkson University

The New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I) is a statewide research and technology transfer center funded by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.  NYSP2I is comprised of four partner universities, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Clarkson University, and the University of Buffalo as well as the State’s ten Regional Technology Development Centers.

The mission of the NYSP2I is to provide a comprehensive and integrated program of research, technology development and diffusion, and training aimed at making NYS more sustainable for the public, the environment and the economy through reductions in toxic chemical use, reductions in emissions to the environment and waste generation, and the efficient use of raw materials, energy and water.

On April 19th, 2011, NYSP2I collaborated with CAMP and the Council for International Trade, Technology, Education and Communication (CITEC) at Clarkson University, to hold a pulp and paper manufacturers roundtable.  Eight companies, along with representatives of NYSP2I, CAMP, CITEC, Clarkson, Empire State Development and CHA (on behalf of NYSERDA) participated in the forum.  The goal was to understand the core environmental issues within the industry and alert them of the technical and financial assistance available.  The roundtable was successful! As a result, common environmental challenges among the industry were identified and possible solutions were discussed.

NYSP2I and Clarkson University along with its Partners, continue to work in partnership to benefit NYS companies to accomplish the same goal: make New York State more sustainable for a successful tomorrow!
