Professor Goodarz Ahmadi Named Associate Dean of Research and Graduate
Studies at Clarkson University's Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering
Clarkson Distinguished Professor Goodarz Ahmadi has
been appointed associate dean for Research and Graduate Studies
in the Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering, effective April
1, 2004. As associate dean Professor Ahmadi is part of an administrative
team for the School of Engineering, which also includes the dean,
the associate dean for Academic Programs, and the department chairs.
He will coordinate research and graduate study efforts at the school
and assist in faculty mentoring.
Professor Ahmadi joined the faculty of Clarkson in 1982. He is
the co-director of Clarkson's Center for Air Resources Engineering
and Science (CARES) and a board member of the Center for Advanced
Materials Processing (CAMP). Also he has served the University in
numerous capacities, including chair of the Department of Mechanical
and Aeronautical Engineering (1991-94).
In 2001, Dr. Ahmadi was the first professor to be awarded the title
of "Clarkson Distinguished Professor," which recognizes tenured
professors whose accomplishments well exceed the requirements for
promotion to the rank of full professor. In 2003, he was honored
with the Robert R. Hill '48 Professorship in Mechanical Engineering.
The professorship was established through a $1 million endowment
created from a generous gift from Robert and Mildred Hill and matching
funds.
Professor Ahmadi is internationally known for his numerous engineering
and scientific research contributions and has authored two books
and over 400 technical publications in archival journals. Also he
has made more than 500 presentations at national and international
technical meetings and has given more than 100 invited talks and
short courses at other institutions. His research interests include
multiphase and granular flows, particle and fiber adhesion and removal,
aerosols, micro-contamination control, turbulence modeling, stability
of fluid motions, continuum mechanics, nonlinear random vibrations
and earthquake engineering. His research has been supported by the
Department of Energy (DOE), the National Science Foundation, NASA,
Corning, IBM, Xerox, Dura and the New York State Office of Science,
Technology and Academic Research for over $4 million in the last
10 years. Professor Ahmadi is currently working on DOE and NASA-funded
projects to develop a new technique for modeling turbulent flows
of dense and dilute, solid-gas or liquid mixtures with applications
to coal transport and processing, spray formation, and hot-gas filtration.
