REUNION NUMBERS ARE IN!
All of us in the alumni relations office want to thank everyone who joined us for reunion this summer!!! We broke the record!! 632 alumni were on hand to celebrate reunion weekend with their friends and family. Elisabeth Cain, assistant director of alumni relations and architect of the weekend’s activities said, “We have worked very hard to improve the registration process and expanded the reunion program to include a diverse and entertaining offering of events and presentations. As of this year, we are also providing child care services for children under 5 years as well as a dynamic and fun Junior Program and we are seeing the results.”
PRINCETON REVIEW: CLARKSON UNIVERSITY ONE OF BEST COLLEGES
Clarkson University offers students a “demanding,” “hands-on” and “absolutely innovative” academic environment according to The Princeton Review. The New York-based education services company features Clarkson in the new 2009 edition of its annual book, Best 368 Colleges. Only about 15% of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges and two Canadian colleges are selected for inclusion in the book. Read more...
A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT COLLINS
Earlier this year I joined the Amethyst Initiative to spur national debate on the legal drinking age. Publicly launched in July 2008, the Amethyst Initiative is made up of chancellors and presidents of universities and colleges across the United States. These higher education leaders have signed their names to a public statement that the 21-year-old drinking age is not working, and, specifically, that it has contributed to the creation of a culture of dangerous binge drinking on their campuses. CLARKSON AND TWO UTILITIES TO DEVELOPE ELECTRIC SYSTEM UPGRADE MODELS;
NYSERDA STUDY AND SOFTWARE WOULD IMPROVE ELECTRIC SYSTEM RELIABILITY
Clarkson University, National Grid and Massena Electric are teaming to perform an engineering study comparing various utility system electrical distribution upgrades. The study will produce a computer program to record these future upgrades and seek to minimize differences among various utility systems. The $258,209 study is funded in part by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Read more...
CLARKSON FUND SETS RECORD!
At reunion weekend, President Collins made his annual address to the alumni. In his address President Collins updated the alumni on the Evolution to Excellence (E2E) Campaign, “I am thrilled to share with you that our alumni are responding even as we just begin our E2E Campaign.” President Collins announced that 19 alumni have already contributed to the E2E Campaign in excess of $21 million.” President Collins went on to say, “This campaign is being lead by our alumni and we are thrilled with the results to date.” Read more...

CLARKSON UNIVERSITY'S SAZONOV PERFORMS BRIDGE EXPERIMENTS IN MALAYSIA
Edward Sazonov, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Clarkson University, recently collaborated with faculty from the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, UKM) to perform bridge experiments on location in Malasia. UKM sponsored Sazonov's visit, which focused on wireless bridge monitoring technologies that he has developed at Clarkson with substantial funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Brandon Linton ’09, Clarkson University senior, was recently chosen to play on a USA Athletes International basketball team that traveled to Spain. Linton, a School of Business innovation and entrepreneurship major from East Elmhurst, N.Y., was chosen for the program based on recommendations from other coaches that Linton has played against while at Clarkson.
The Zeta Phi Chapter of Alpha Chi Rho (Clarkson Chapter) was recently awarded most improved chapter (with a chapter house) at the Leadership and Scholarship Seminar of the fraternity at Gettysburg College.
