The future of business and engineering education is the same: both are linked to innovation and to developing leaders who understand innovation and how to create a culture that promotes creative thinking.
Clarkson’s approach to separating Innovation and Entrepreneurship is unique and has led to national recognition, a #15 ranking in entrepreneurship by the Princeton Review (2013), and support by corporate, foundation, and private donors. Faculty in these departments focus on research, community-based outreach, and student-faculty projects.
The Shipley Center for Innovation serves as a campus-wide engine to accelerate the commercialization of discovery-driven Clarkson innovations into the marketplace. The Shipley Center seeks to foster and accelerate the exchange of ideas between the various schools on campus and industry and has created a regional ecosystem through partnerships with Canton-Potsdam Hospital and St. Lawrence University.
The Reh Center for Entrepreneurship develops high potential Clarkson graduates by educating and supporting regional entrepreneurs. The Reh Center draws on the expertise and skills of Clarkson faculty, staff, and interns to educate and train students and regional entrepreneurs to seek and manage start-up funding and grow their companies. The Reh Center is also home to the FIRE Dept, an undergraduate program that works with regional entrepreneurs to solve business issues.
Clarkson's Young Entrepreneurs and Innovators Award Program has received national attention for its pioneering opportunity for student entrepreneurs to pay for college – exchange tuition for company equity.
Rajesh Sethi recently published a paper in the Journal of Marketing in which he challenged a well-accepted assumption concerning the Stage-Gate process for new product development. READ MORE.
