Please join us this October for our annual Family/Homecoming Weekend! Held each fall, this tradition is an opportunity for families and alumni to discover more about the lives of our students while enjoying student performances, faculty presentations, soccer and hockey games, and special entertainment!

We are still working on the 2014 schedule, but have a look at the tentative plans below. Please note you will be given a full schedule of events upon your arrival to the Welcome Area at the Student Center Info Desk!

Friday, October 24, 2014

  • 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. | Visits with Faculty and Staff (By appointment only. Subject to availability.)
  • 10 a.m.-7 p.m. | Hockey Ticket Pick-up (Ticket Box Office, Cheel Campus Center) Pick up reserved hockey tickets. NOTE: If you did not purchase a ticket in advance, students and families will have to pay $13 each at the door. Students may sit in student section for free with ID this game only.
  • 3-5 p.m. | Welcome Area  (Student Center Information Desk) Sign our guest book, pick up an event schedule, campus map & ask questions. 
  • 3 p.m. | Women’s Hockey vs. Syracuse University (Cheel Arena) $4 admission, free w/ Clarkson ID (one entry per CU ID).
  • 4-11 p.m. | Club 99 Open (Next to Cheel Commons, Cheel) and Bar 9 Open (1st Floor, Student Center) Nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages are available for sale.
  • 5-6:45 p.m. | Pre-Hockey Buffet (Barben Rooms, Cheel) Buffet with cash bar. $15.99/person. Tax and tip included.
  • 5-7 p.m. | Third Annual SausageFest (Student Center) A can't-miss event for alumni, students, and the whole family! Featuring FREE gourmet sausages, peppers and onions, cotton candy, pretzels, carnival games, and activities!
  • 7 p.m. | Men’s Hockey vs. Bowling Green State University (Cheel)  $13 admission, students sit in student section free with Clarkson ID this game only.
  • 7:30 p.m. | Little Shop of Horrors, presented by Clarkson Theatre Company (Old Snell Theater, Elm Street, downtown Potsdam) It's a horror comedy rock musical that's tons of fun for the whole family! Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens, $8 for general admission and FREE for children under 5.
  • 9:45 p.m. (Following Hockey Game) | Magician Joseph Tran (Student Center Forum) One part magician and one part comedian, Joseph’s high-energy, fresh combination of stand-up magic and comedy is perfectly suited for students, alumni, and families alike! Sponsored by CUB.
  • 11 p.m. | Late Knight Movie: Earth to Echo + Free Popcorn (Student Center Forum) After receiving a bizarre series of encrypted messages, a group of kids embark on an adventure with an alien who needs their help. Sponsored by Clarkson Union Board (CUB) and the Office of Student Life and Engagement (OSL).

  • 8:30 a.m.-noon | Welcome Area (Student Center Information Desk). Sign our guest book, pick up an event schedule, campus map & ask questions.
  • 9 a.m.-2 p.m. | Trip with Clarkson University Outing Club to Azure Mountain (Meet in front of Cheel at 8:45, caravan departs at 9 a.m.) Weather permitting. 45 minutes from campus-please bring your car.
  • 9:15-9:45 a.m. | Reh Center for Entrepreneurship: Info Session/Meet & Greet (Snell Atrium) Please join us for $1 off EntReh lattes and free coffee. Come get to know what entrepreneurial innovations the students at the Reh Center for Entrepreneurship are working on!
  • 10-10:45 a.m. | Welcome from President Tony Collins (Student Center Forum) President Collins will present current academic programs and curriculum innovations and introduce members of the Parents Committee. Light refreshments will be available.
  • 10 a.m.-7 p.m. | Hockey Ticket Pick-up (Ticket Box Office, Cheel Campus Center) Pick up reserved hockey tickets. NOTE: If you did not purchase a ticket in advance, students and families will have to pay $13 each at the door.
  • 11 a.m.-noon | Meet & Greet with Faculty (Student Center Bar 9) Meet the faculty that teach your student's classes! Representatives from various departments will attend this social hour.
  • 11 a.m.-1 p.m. | Annual Air Force/Army ROTC Soccer Game (Hantz Field)
  • 11a.m.-2 p.m. | Oksoberfest Bratwurst Barbecue (Student Center Patio/Bar 9) Staffed by Greek Life and the Counseling Center, in recognition of National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week. FREE: Bratwurst, German potato salad, coleslaw, hot apple cider, soda, coffee, and tea. Participate in a drunk driving simulation wearing drunk goggles, get the latest AlcoholEdu statistics, and learn how to drink smart and about alcohol poisoning intervention.
  • 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m. | Faculty Presentation: Applied Mathematics Helping You Get Strawberries (TAC 206) Dr. Kathleen Fowler, Associate Professor of Mathematics, will present the real-world applications of her research which is used in strawberry production. Q&A included!
  • 1-3 p.m. | Clarkson School & Honors Program Reception (Price Hall, 2nd Floor)
  • 1-5 p.m. | Family Fun: Big Chair Photos! (Student Center Multipurpose Rooms) Free! 
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. | Robotics Demonstration (ERC Atrium) Dr. Jim Carroll, Associate Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering, and robotics mentors associated with the Northern NY Robotics Academy at Clarkson will showcase hands-on robotics demos! Demos will include Lego robots, humanoid robots, drones and related K-12 activities that are run regionally both in class and on an extra-curricular basis.
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. | Dr. Jim’s Chemistry Magic Show (Science Center 360) 300 person limit– seating starts at 1 p.m. 
  • 2:30-3:15 p.m. | Now That Orientation Is Over.... (Snell 212) Join Dean of Students, Steve Newkofsky, and Associate Director of the Student Success Center, Kate Mikel, for a mid-semester check-in. Ask questions!
  • 2:30 p.m. | Little Shop of Horrors, presented by Clarkson Theatre Company (Old Snell Theater, Elm Street, downtown Potsdam) It's a horror comedy rock musical that's tons of fun for the whole family! Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens, $8 for general admission and FREE for children under 5.
  • 3 p.m. | Women's Soccer vs. William Smith College (Hantz Turf Field)
  • 3:15-4 p.m. | The Importance of the Professional Experience (Snell 213) Presentation and discussion with students who have participated in professional experience programs. 
  • 3:30-4 p.m. | Faculty Presentation: Fairy Tales & the Merits of Disobedience (TAC 206) Dr. Lisa Propst, Visiting Assistant Professor of Humanities, discusses the ways early versions of fairy tales like "Little Red Riding Hood" encouraged skepticism toward authority and why this message was lost as the tales evolved. Q&A included!
  • 4-11 p.m. | Club 99 Open (Next to Cheel Commons, Cheel) and Bar 9 Open (1st Floor, Student Center) Nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages are available for sale.
  • 4:30-6 p.m. | Student Performances (Student Center Forum) Featuring performances by Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, Belly Dance Club, Dance Ensemble, Clarkson Goldies, and the Golden Knotes!
  • 5-6:45 p.m. | Pre-Hockey Buffet (Barben Rooms, Cheel) Buffet with cash bar. $15.99/person. Tax and tip included.
  • 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. | Homecoming Pep Rally (Student Center Forum) Get pumped up with the Clarkson Community for the Men’s Hockey game!  The Pep Band will perform as well as Clarkson student groups—come see who wins the prized Tommy Award for the best Homecoming skit!
  • 7:30 p.m. | Men’s Hockey vs. Bowling Green State University (Cheel) $13 admission, standing room $10 per person. 
  • 7:30 p.m. | Little Shop of Horrors, presented by Clarkson Theatre Company (Old Snell Theater, Elm Street, downtown Potsdam) It's a horror comedy rock musical that's tons of fun for the whole family! Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens, $8 for general admission and FREE for children under 5.
  • 9:45 p.m. (Following the Hockey Game) | Stand Up Comedy Performance by John Heffron (Student Center Forum) This stand-up performance is one not to be missed! Winner of Last Comic Standing, John Heffron's show will be fun for the whole family!
  • 11 p.m. | Late Knight Movie, The Goonies (Student Center Forum) A group of kids set out on an adventure in search of pirate treasure that could save their homes from foreclosure. Sponsored by CUB and OSL.

Clarkson is proud to host an annual “Parent’s Hockey Game” each year during Family Weekend, as well as a standard hockey game. Your family is invited to attend them both. Come support your Golden Knights this Fall!

Clarkson will host a headlining performance by John Heffron, winner of NBC's Last Comic Standing, on Saturday, October 25th, 2014.

Cristela Alonzo, who has appeared on Conan, Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Showtime's Legally Brown, Last Comic Standing and Live at Gotham, performed as the headlining act in the Student Center Forum on Saturday, October 19, 2013.
